Yellow is notoriously difficult to wear and often avoided, even by menswear’s most daring. It is a statement colour that needs to be used sparingly and anchored with neutrals. With this in mind, always look to control use of the hue with surrounding pieces in white, blue, grey, beige and charcoal. We all know how relatively easy it is to pull off neutral looks made up of black, white, navy, grey but if you really want to stand out from the pack, it’s time to start embracing bolder hues. Here i’m brightening up these dark winter days with this yellow rain jacket by Nautica, providing a modern twist on the classic sailing anorak.
The lightweight raincoat is a wardrobe essential, the pack-away shell can be easily stored in your bag, ready to be withdrawn in showery weather. This is a good opportunity to inject and play with some bold colour. As you’re going to be pulling this jacket out at different times, it needs to be versatile. Something that you can style with sweatpants as easily as you can trousers. Casual separates like cotton polo shirts, T-shirts, jumpers and shorts would look great in yellow, particularly when combined with blues. Keeping this in mind, I’ve worn a navy striped jumper with navy trousers and white chuck taylors to keep the look smart, and to let the jacket grab all the attention. The beauty of a rain jacket is that it’s lightweight and convenient. Always take advantage of the practicality of what this piece can offer your wardrobe.
Most of you have seen my creative side when it comes to my visual representation of a product. So every time when I shoot a particular outfit, i make sure that there is a connectivity between the looks and the location. This look was shot in the Sassoon Dock, keeping in mind the concept and all the street art and installation this place has. Sassoon Dock takes art to unexpected places..places where communities don’t typically interact with art directly on their streets. It was a good opportunity to merge both the things together and come up with something magnificent. Since the look was bold and bright, i decided to use the walls with quirky and colourful artwork at Sassoon Dock. A big thank you to Ali for capturing it so beautifully.
